A Love That’s Mine | Framed Poem

There is something beautiful about still having an innocent desire to love.

A Love That’s Mine was born from a childhood poem I wrote about wishing to be loved by my mother. Years later, that same simple capacity to love can be recognized in romantic love—the openness to give love and receive it in return, whether that love has already been found or is still hoped for.

This isn't a poem about desperation or trying to fill an emptiness. It's simply love in the heart translated into words.

I believe our capacity to love comes from being created in the image of God. Some people suppress that love. Others continue to long for a place to give it and receive it in a human way.

There is something especially pure about the way a child loves before that love has been complicated by the world. To grow older and discover that the same tenderness still exists within you—that you can still hope, still love, and still desire to give your heart with innocence—is miraculous to me.

A Love That’s Mine is for the person who recognizes that the innocent openness they once had toward love is still present. Maybe you've already found the person who receives that love. Maybe you're still hoping to. Either way, there is something beautiful about realizing that your capacity to love has remained.
